Course Benefits

1stNevadaLicense.com understands that the driver education process can be both exciting and stressful. Few teens want nothing more than to get on the road as quickly as possible and few parents want nothing more than for their teens to be safe. Our goal is to provide a program that meets the needs of both parents and teens.

Our self-paced program allows every student to work around his or her own schedule. Students can start or stop the course as needed and pick up right where they left off. The comprehensive state-approved program covers everything from the basics of Nevada traffic law, to proper defensive driving techniques, to the dangers of driving while under the influence and other problems facing teen drivers. Our program provides teen drivers with the education, skills and confidence they need to get their license and get on the road safely and responsibly.

The Basics

  • Students enroll in the course, study the material and pass the final exam.
  • When a student passes, they receive their certificate of completion and are ready to take the Nevada learner permit test (if the student doesn't have a permit yet).
  • Once students have their permit, they are required to hold it for a minimum of six-months and accumulate 50 hours of driving practice - 10 hours of which must be at night. The DMV will provide a log book for a parent or guardian to keep track of the student’s hours as needed. Click Here to access and print the log book in PDF format.
  • After six months, the student is eligible to take their driver license exam. They must present a valid permit, driver log and driver education completion certificate.
  • The student then becomes a safe, responsible and licensed driver.

After a student enrolls, they begin the driver education course. The course is divided into timed sections, for a total of 30 hours of required instruction time. Students are free to learn at their own pace and can log on or off as needed, or revisit sections for review – no data will be lost.

Once a student completes the driver education course, they must pass the final exam. The exam is designed to test what a student has learned and will not trick or confuse them in any way. The goal of the course is to ensure that each student has the knowledge to become a safe driver and is prepared to take the DMV exam. When a student passes the driver education program, 1stNevadaLicense.com will issue a certificate of completion.

Once a student earns a certificate of completion, they are ready to take the Nevada learner permit exam (if the student doesn't have a permit yet). The student must be at least 15 ˝ years old to obtain a learner permit and the DMV will require them to pass both a written exam and a vision test. The DMV also requires a fee of $21.25 for the permit, proper identification, social security number, and proof of insurance from a parent or guardian, as well as the signature of parent or guardian for liability purposes. Everything the student needs to know to obtain a permit and license is covered in the program.

Now that the student has their learner permit, they are ready for the road. The DMV requires that a student accumulates 50 hours of practice driving time - 10 hours of which must be at night. The DMV will provide students and parents with a logbook and driver training guide, so they can practice and record their hours. The logbook, permit and the driver education certificate of completion will be required when it comes time to take the driver license test.

Nevada and most other states, require that student drivers hold a learner permit for no less than six months prior to taking the license exam. While this might seem like an eternity - for both parents and teens - it is designed to ensure that the student driver has the experience they need to succeed on the road. Once the mandatory six month period is up, the student may take the license exam. A valid learner permit, driver log and driver education certificate of completion are required by the DMV before the test will be given.
